Exercise

"Researchers in Boston have found regular walks and stretching exercises can help ease the chronic pain of fibromyalgia.

In a study of 207 women between the ages of 18 and 75 diagnosed with fibromyalgia, researchers from Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard University assigned one group to a twice-weekly aerobic and stretching program for 16 weeks.

Another group added mild strength training, while a third group attended a 2-hour education course every two weeks.  A fourth group combined all of the approaches.

The study found an exercise program that included progressive walking and flexibility movements, with or without strength training, improved physical, emotional, and social function."  [Nurse.com, Dec. 7, 2007]

We know you hurt and have little or no energy, but as you begin to feel better on the iodine protocol. there are 3 types of exercises that we highly recommend for rebuilding your strength and energy.

1.  Walking
Walking is a wonderful form of exercise.  It is beneficial for every age group, costs no money, and requires no special equipment other than a good pair of walking shoes.  If you have not been walking regularly for awhile, start slowly and try to increase your distance and speed gradually.

2.  Stretching
Stretching exercises are beneficial at any age, and they can help correct physical problems caused by inactivity and bad postural alignment.  We recommend that you start slowly and build up your repetitions as your flexibility improves.   If possible, work with a personal trainer to make sure you perform each exercise correctly.

We recommend the Egoscue Method stretching exercises demonstrated here by the Egoscue Training Center in San Diego, CA.

3.  Isometrics
You can build muscle in your own home, without using any expensive gym equipment, using Greer Childer's "Shapely Secrets" program for just 7 minutes a day.   This program uses isometric exercises, similar to those used by famous body-builder, Charles Atlas, known during the early 20th century as the world's best built man.   As you tighten individual muscles and hold the position for a period of 25 seconds, your muscles will get stronger and stronger.  These exercises are appropriate for any age group and are specifically targeted to women.
